Historic parks and gardens are vital to the heritage of the UK. Our philosophy is that their successful recording, conservation and restoration depends upon close attention to the knowledge, experience and feelings of the creators of such landscapes.

We come closest to understanding historic landscapes through the words, images and ideas of their time. This can only be achieved through wide-ranging and meticulous research; both on the ground and in historic records.

This philosophy underpins all of my activities as a garden historian.
